Tide, Irish among those interested in Texas transfer QB

In January of this year, Alabama and Notre Dame battled for the BCS title. Several months later, they are among the teams who could be fighting for the services of a transfer quarterback.

Speaking to the Arizona Republic, Connor Brewer listed the Irish and the Tide as two of the handful of programs who have contacted him over the past 24 hours. It was reported Tuesday that the redshirt freshman quarterback would be leaving Texas and transferring to another school.

In addition to the aforementioned programs, Duke, Stanford and Tennessee have already reached out to the former four-star recruit. Because of ties on the coaching staffs and/or to the state, Arizona and UCLA were mentioned as possibilities.

Additionally, Brewer stated that he would listen to overtures from home-state Arizona State, although it doesn’t appear that the Sun Devils have been one of the teams to reach out as of yet.

“I don’t have a place in mind,” Brewer told the Republic. “It’s still early, too soon to say where I’ll end up.”

Wherever Brewer ends up, he’ll be forced to sit out a season if it’s at the FBS level.

The player did, though, seemingly confirm that his placement deep on the UT depth chart was behind his decision to leave the Longhorns.

“I think I still have a chance at that,” the Scottsdale, Ariz., product said. “I felt I’d have a better opportunity at another place. I want to go to a place where I can play sooner.”
