Will Muschamp kicks off SEC Media Days with a response to Ohio State

Allstate Sugar Bowl - Louisville v Florida Getty Images

There was a brief offseason-y brouhaha earlier this month when an “exclusive report” from Clay Travis said Ohio State coach Urban Meyer “turned in” a former assistant at Florida for a secondary bump violation.

Meyer ultimately denied turning in anyone, but did admit Ohio State forwarded a complaint to the Big Ten office.

Regardless of who officially did what, it was obvious Florida coach Will Muschamp was going to be asked about it at SEC Media Days. And, suffice to say, the coach delivered in his response.

“We appreciate our friends from Ohio making sure we follow NCAA rules,” Muschamp said. “They certainly know something about NCAA rules.”

Well-played, Muschamp. Or, should I say, Brady Hoke?

Shutup Muschamp, you’re in the SEC and I don’t see any halos over the heads of SEC coaches.

Will “$400 will make you happy after a bad practice” Muschamp certainly knows about NCAA rules as well and how to skirt around them.

Shit just got real. Drop the mike and walk off stage Will, you just slammed “Ohio”.

  8. BrownsTown says: Jul 16, 2013 4:59 PM

Wow, Meyer really casts a large shadow since Muschamp is obviously jealous of Urb’s success at UF.

  9. bucrightoff says: Jul 16, 2013 5:32 PM

Muschamp busy cleaning up Meyer’s mess. I wonder who gets the uneviable task the next time Urban fakes a heat attack, ummm, I mean needs family time.

  10. gr3710 says: Jul 16, 2013 6:14 PM

the arrest record at Florida was shameful for Urban in Gainesville. winning cures all, but hopefully Will does it cleanly unlike his pathetic predecessor

  11. overratedgators says: Jul 16, 2013 6:35 PM

Muschamp’s right: if it hadn’t been for Tressel and tattoos, Ohio State would have been bowl eligible and probably been in the National Championship with Notre Dame.

You know, while Muschamp’s Gators were getting obliterated by a team from the Big East.

  12. thermanmerman99 says: Jul 16, 2013 7:18 PM

what is funny, is that all of these so called ohio state fans were calling meyer a cheater and a thug recruiting POS when he was busy coaching florida over a blowout win over their precious buckeyes, yet now that meyer is coaching their team, the defend him endlessly no matter what the evidence shows. if all of this stuff with hernandez and meyer came out in 2006 after that national championship game between florida and ohio state, every buckeye fan would be going wild on these boards, calling him a cheater, recruiting thugs, letting players get away with everything, they would be demanding he be suspended from football, yet they don’t dare say that now, hypocrisy at its finest, but you can’t expect much from sorry sack buckeye fans.

  13. barnesaintnoble says: Jul 16, 2013 7:43 PM

It’s glorious when the whole nation can see what Michigan fans have to deal with on a regular basis.

  14. dkhhuey says: Jul 16, 2013 8:28 PM

@barnes – what does constantly losing, the Rich Rod experience, hiring Flounder as your coach, and wearing ugly helmets have to do with Florida and OSU tiff?

  15. elosopoderoso99 says: Jul 16, 2013 8:34 PM

Its funny that people don’t understand that Georgia actually had more arrests during Urban’s tenure at Florida… But then again Georgia didn’t win two national championships so let’s all hate on the guy who wins

  16. swampcannons says: Jul 16, 2013 8:35 PM

@ overrated: Get as much mileage as you can out of the Sugar bowl loss. So, losing by 10 pts is an obliteration, huh?! What do you call 41-14 then? UF has owned osu in recent memory and it shows in your bitterness. What’s going to be funny is the reaction of the sniveling osu fanbase when they don’t make it out of their own conference undefeated this season!! Can’t wait for it!!

  17. barkleyblows says: Jul 16, 2013 8:45 PM

What’s funny is all these Florida Gator fans that thought Meyer was god… But now think he’s a cheat because he left. Classic jealousy.

  18. thermanmerman99 says: Jul 16, 2013 9:02 PM

ohio state fans sure as an arrogant fanbase for a program that has 1 questionable ( refs giving them the game vs miami ) championship since the 1960’s, and they think anybody is jealous of their irrelvelant program? LOL keep the laughs coming losers.

  19. dkhhuey says: Jul 16, 2013 9:11 PM

ah therman – what’s the matter little guy, did somebody take your lolli? Is that why you’re all whiny and angry? Perhaps when you stop sniveling your mommie can get you a new binkie and explain that only 12 year old girls still use LOL…

  20. thermanmerman99 says: Jul 16, 2013 9:13 PM

no im laughing and chilling in my lebron james miami heat jersey right now, you still crying about him? LOL

  21. dkhhuey says: Jul 16, 2013 9:28 PM

I know it’s hard to do while you’re so upset but try and stay focused little guy – this story is about OSU and the Gators – nothing to do about basketball, Lebron, Cleveland, or Miami… now run along little fella before mommie takes away your PC privileges

  22. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 16, 2013 10:00 PM

Coach Boom, thanks for not talking about me.

    Johnny Manziel

  23. thraiderskin says: Jul 16, 2013 10:56 PM

Meh… he isn’t wrong. We got caught, we paid the price and hopefully we can move on. Urban does have a checkered past, I don’t care for his style of football, but he is one hell of a recruiter… So until he gets OSU into trouble, I’ll be cautiously optimistic that he will take Ohio State to the promise land.

  26. tendigitpoet says: Jul 17, 2013 7:13 AM

Brady’s use of “Ohio” cursed the UM hoops team in 2012’s March Madness. Take note, Will; next thing you know it’ll be Florida’s hoops team losing to the Bobcats…

  27. overratedgators says: Jul 17, 2013 7:18 AM

Swampcannons: ” So, losing by 10 pts is an obliteration, huh?! What do you call 41-14 then?”

    The work of Urban Meyer.

  28. monsterright says: Jul 17, 2013 7:42 AM

What a crack up. Why do the FL teams fans always jump on the whistle blower when there is an infraction? Usually everyone jumps on the guys that had the violation. Didn’t we here this same thing from the U?

  29. dryzzt23 says: Jul 17, 2013 8:54 AM

    Very classy SEC….not!

I hope stupid things like this start to turn popular opinion against the arrogant SEC schools.

SEC schools are the ONLY schools in the country who oversign every class, then they pull athletic scholarships from players who they no longer want and give them a medical designation so that their college is paid for. This is how they oversign…and get away with it.
Saban is the prime perpetrator of this.

  30. dryzzt23 says: Jul 17, 2013 8:55 AM

So Mus is ripping Ohio University?

    What a maroon.

  31. florida727 says: Jul 17, 2013 9:31 AM

I’m clearly a Florida fan, so commence with the thumbs-downs if you must, but here’s the reality of college sports: no one, let me repeat, NO ONE is 100% clean from infractions. Not to excuse it, but have you ever read the freaking Rule book? I want to meet the guy who thinks he knows it cover-to-cover. I can’t imagine a school being able to field a team without breaking some stupid Rule.

#elosopo, didn’t know about the UGA arrest record, but you made one very valid point: everyone loves to hate a winner. I think it’s both funny and sad how in America our society loves to build someone up until they succeed and are on top of the proverbial mountain, then take such great pleasure in tearing them down. Pretty sad commentary when you think about it.

My preference is to root for my team. Enjoy it when we win. Congratulate the other team when we lose. It’s sports. That’s all.

    Re: therman’s remarks:
Was Hernandez even at Florida in 2006? Thought he came in the next year….

  33. thermanmerman99 says: Jul 17, 2013 2:00 PM

i used it as an example about Hernandez. if a similar situation such as the Hernandez case happened right after that national championship game between florida and ohio state, you would have buckeye fans going wild all over these boards, saying the game shouldnt count, that meyer only recruits thugs, they werent even eligible to play, meyer should be suspended etc etc, but now since meyer is at ohio state, these loudmouth buckeye clowns love him and stick up for him no matter what the evidence shows about meyer being a pure scumbag.

The SEC has dominated the National Championship for 7 years straight. That is a fact that cannot be disputed.

The main complainers about this domination are from the Big X and the Big XII. It seems that every year the BCS Bowl Committee, Coach’s Poll, and the AP have been incorrect in selecting an SEC Team to Play in the NCG. Then when an SEC wins the NCG there is more crying, moaning, and groaning how the SEC Team did not deserve to be there. It appears to me after the SEC has won 7 straight NCG’s the selection seems o be more than valid.

Sooner or later the SEC will lose or not make it to the NCG. There will be cheers from he Big X and Big XII SEC haters. There has never been a Conference that has won as many consecutive NCG’s as the SEC. I feel very safe to say going forward there never will be another Conference to even come close. There is no question that the SEC has been the best Conference in NCAA Division 1 Football for more than seven years.

Quit crying about the SEC’s success and knock them off this pedestal. Once another Conference does that provide factual information to dispute the fact the SEC is THE BEST CONFERENCE in DIVISION 1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

The SEC will be glad to supply you with your crying towels until that time arrives.

  35. MasMacho says: Jul 17, 2013 2:32 PM

The more UF can distance itself from what happens on the field (having no shot an SEC title again this year) the less likely folks will notice that Muschump isn’t a very good coach and is only keeping the seat warm for somebody else.

As for the Michigan fans, who have absolutely no business defending themselves here, you aren’t very good, and teams like Alabama and tOSU that are actually good will continue to prove that to you for the forseeable future. No matter how much you wish to associate yourselves with a winner, the fact is that UM is not a winner. UM is a second-tier competitor in B1G, behind tOSU, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

Folks watching that actually know tOSU program will tell you that Urban has disciplined and dismissed many players for the most minor of infractions, self-reported violations, etc.

What is really funny is Georgia is one of the few universities to have an extremely strict penalty for what most colleges, do not even give an athlete a half game suspension for. Even minor incidences at UGA get a kid suspended for at least one game, thus it appears that UGA has the most infractions.
Get your facts straight before you criticize another university. Especially one that runs a cleaner program and holds the athlete responsible for bad conduct, more than 99% of the universities do.

    @ monsterright

It’s okay to take a whistle blower to task if he tolerated wrongdoing when it benefited him, but then reported it once he was coaching elsewhere.
