Nekkid FIU players cause brouhaha for Ron Turner

Don’t worry; a new season is just a month and a half away.

In the latest story reeking of the offseason, USA Today reported that there was an “incident” involving several members of the FIU football program. Per the report, the unnamed players were taking part in a team function at a local beach and decided to change their clothes.

In public.

The resulting ruckus created by the young men sans clothes prompted first year FIU head coach Ron Turner to issue a statement to the paper:

“Following the workout, some of our athletes went to rinse off at a designated public shower area and a few of them made a poor decision and changed their clothes in public.

“I want to apologize to the community and anyone who was at the beach this morning for this unfortunate incident. We are committed to helping our student athletes grow as gentlemen while preparing them for their careers.”

No charges will likely be filed against the players.

This incident continued what was a rough week for Turner and his FIU program. Sunday, leading rusher Kendrick Rhodes was dismissed from the team after he was charged with discharging a weapon on school property, a second-degree felony.

Liberty at Kent State and North Carolina at South Carolina will kick off at six p.m. ET Aug. 29 to jumpstart the 2013 regular season and that day can’t get here soon enough...
