Jaw of Huskers OC Beck broken... to correct sleep apnea

More times than not, it is a player or players entering summer camp with injury questions hovering overhead. In Lincoln this year, though, said questions involve one of Bo Pelini‘s most important assistants.

According to Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com, Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck underwent surgery on his jaw recently to correct what appears to be a rather serious case of sleep apnea. Specifically, Beck’s lower and upper jaw were broken as part of the procedure.

Beck, who has lost 15 pounds since undergoing the procedure, is only able to speak softly at this point in time, although he pointed out the Cornhuskers’ no-huddle offense and use of hand signals should have little impact on game day.

Beck will be entering his sixth season at NU, and his third as coordinator. In 2010, the year prior to Beck’s promotion, Nebraska finished 39th in the country in scoring offense (30.9 points per game) and 44th in total offense (398.1 yards per game); in 2012, the ‘Huskers finished 28th (34.8 ppg) and 26th (460.8 ypg), respectively.
