Report: Buckeyes dismiss top RB, star corner arrested

O-H!!! O-NO!!!

Heading into summer camp and coming off a perfect 2012 in its first season under Urban Meyer, Ohio State is not only a near-unanimous pick to win the Big Ten but is also one of the teams looked on as a favorite to break Alabama’s string of BCS titles.  While that may still end up being the case, the Buckeyes’ row just got a lot harder to hoe.

Citing sources with knowledge of the situation, the Columbus Dispatch is reporting that starting running back Carlos Hyde has been dismissed from the football program following an incident over the weekend in Columbus.  Hyde, the Dispatch writes, “was named as a person of interest in a weekend assault against a female in a Downtown bar.”

As it appears now, no charges have been filed against Hyde, although the same can’t be said for another Buckeye star.

According to the same report, preseason All-American favorite Bradley Roby was arrested early Sunday morning in a separate incident and charged with battery resulting in bodily injury.  The incident at a Bloomington, Ind., drinking establishment occurred when Roby “was asked to leave a bar after a disturbance, refused, and was subdued by bouncers at the bar before being taken into custody.”

Roby could be facing a suspension pending a further investigation into the arrest.

Hyde led all OSU running backs in rushing last season with 970 yards, and led the team with 16 rushing touchdowns.  Roby was a first-team All-Big Ten performer in 2012 and was a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive back.

The school has yet to confirm the twin developments, although a statement and/or release from the school is expected in short order.

Wow – what do you know – the League of Urban Haters are out with pitchfork and torches already!

I will wait until the facts come out and see where the chips fall but regardless, not a good news day for the Buckeyes!

  10. eidolon21 says: Jul 22, 2013 12:27 PM

  12. oldforester says: Jul 22, 2013 12:41 PM

Its OK Buckeyes, you still have Cleveland to recruit from and Detroit is just around the corner.

  16. MasMacho says: Jul 22, 2013 12:56 PM

Wait.. just so I’m clear on what the trolls have come here to say…

A guy gets arrested (for the first time), and he is dismissed from the team. The starting TB.

What exactly did Urban Meyer do wrong here? (he didn’t recruit him either, btw).

  17. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 1:04 PM

MasMacho … we had a under age player in trouble for drinking and osu fans were all over it, so how can you expect any different treatment…

  18. dkhhuey says: Jul 22, 2013 1:07 PM

Reggie Roby – IDIOT! I’m not sure what part of a 1000 stories you hear year after year regarding the trouble college football players get into in bars you didn’t understand! STAY OUT OF BARS!!!! PERIOD.

Carlos – A person of interest can mean many things and I’ll wait until the facts come out and the case gets adjudicated but regardless – SEE ABOVE!!!

Yes I know the Urban hatred noise is deafening at this point and this may fall on deaf ears but WTF is wrong with these college athletes? It drives me insane to read these type of stories from any school knowing that coaches do nothing but drill it into these kids’ heads on an hourly basis! I just don’t understand the stupidity levels when it comes to this sh!t.

  19. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 1:09 PM

MasMacho … gator young man barked at a dog….osu assaulted a female, kind of different situation….well in most of the world eyes anyway maybe not your…

  20. inhokewetrust says: Jul 22, 2013 1:13 PM

Well well well….Fuckeyes go 12-0 again…who cares..like last year it means nothing….but we know that wont happen again..FUCKEYES come to our house this year…hail to the victors…CHAMPIONS OF THE WEST….so to recap Meyer left collage football due to burnout and missing family…well don’t worry Myers…he will be home sooner than later…and to the rest of Ohio recruts….we are waiting with open arms…

  21. goodfieldnohit says: Jul 22, 2013 1:13 PM

Somehow this is Johnny Manziel’s fault.

  22. joshuavkidd says: Jul 22, 2013 1:21 PM

Hahaha! They also had another player (Vonn Bell) arrested over the weekend for possession! Nice work fellas!

  23. BrownsTown says: Jul 22, 2013 1:26 PM

    Punching a woman….not good.

Getting tackled by bouncers because you can’t walk away…..not good.

    Brady Hoke’s BMI…..not good.

    Thumbs up for my brevity.

  24. dkhhuey says: Jul 22, 2013 1:27 PM

@inhokeispizza – doesn’t matter, Urban will never be out coached by Flounder who is barely above .500 in his career! But then again, for your program, 8 – 5 means a huge successful year!

  25. gatorprof says: Jul 22, 2013 1:27 PM

What does the arrest ticker read for the Meyer era at OSU?

    Hyde, Roby, Perkins, Baugh?

Are Roby, Perkins, and Baugh all part of Urban’s first recruiting class?

    Any more that I missed?

Yeah, I know, I shouldn’t throw stones when some dumb MLB decides to bark at a Police dog.

  26. jrs45 says: Jul 22, 2013 1:49 PM

  31. MasMacho says: Jul 22, 2013 2:14 PM

It really is sad for all the UF fans that just can’t let go of Urban Meyer. It’s as if they are certain that they’ll never be that good again.

  32. jesse1834 says: Jul 22, 2013 2:15 PM

Carlos will fit in nicely in the NFL.

  33. BrownsTown says: Jul 22, 2013 2:17 PM

“jrs45…. makes fun of a Michigan guy for miss spelling college but can’t handle the word kid… lmfbo…”

    Tori Spelling?

Several layers deep in the spelling corrections. The Inception of comment threads.

  34. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 2:19 PM

MasMacho… put osu in the sec and your a no better then a 500 ball team…dumb as- we beat you the last two times we played maybe more, and happy you have our x ball coach

  35. jrs45 says: Jul 22, 2013 2:21 PM

Why did I even show up here lol.

    Roll Tide!

  36. irishdodger says: Jul 22, 2013 2:31 PM

Hyde allegedly punched a woman whose father is a police officer currently deployed to Afghanistan.

Their TE signee, Marcus Baugh, was busted for underage drinking back home in Cali. Meyer made the team run gassers for his punishment. Kid’s not even out of HS so he’ll get a nice welcome if/when he arrives in Cbus.

  37. MasMacho says: Jul 22, 2013 2:47 PM

    mshassen…

just going to take a guess that you attended UF, not knowing the difference between “you’re” and “your.”

  38. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 2:56 PM

MasMacho the fact remains the same put OSU in the SEC and they lose 3 4 maybe 5 games a year

  39. MasMacho says: Jul 22, 2013 3:05 PM

If it were a spelling bee we’d take first every time.

  40. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 3:06 PM

MasMacho… and for your information, its harder to get into the sec then the big ten, if fact lots of kids that dont make it here go up and play for the big ten or whatever your called now

  41. rickrock6661982 says: Jul 22, 2013 3:07 PM

This is why Urban was the perfect replacement for Tressell. It’s all about him in the end.

Garbage out, garbage in…remain status quo in Columbus, Ohio

  42. bigbuckeye76 says: Jul 22, 2013 3:27 PM

So let me get this straight, two football players get into trouble late at night, one of whom is thrown off the team, and you ate blowing up the coach….who didn’t recruit either kid? What exactly did Urban do wrong again?

  43. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 3:39 PM

bigbuckeye76… I believe he did I think I read ones still at high school

  44. vincentbojackson says: Jul 22, 2013 3:42 PM

I’ve seen this before with Meyer. One or both will be back by the first conference game.

  45. mshassen3000 says: Jul 22, 2013 3:44 PM

heck there were times they would sit out the 1st few series

  46. imaduffer says: Jul 22, 2013 3:48 PM

When are they going to make the owners of the bars accountable for serving alcohol to under aged people. Shut them down.

  47. metrocritical says: Jul 22, 2013 4:33 PM

Wow. This thread has a remarkable display of mean spirited salvos filled with typos, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes and hyperbolic rants that have little relevance to the underlying story itself, demonstrating that fans are not necessarily graduates of the schools that they support and possibly not the high school system, either. Does anyone proofread or use spell check anymore?

    Welcome, first-time commenter!!!

  49. metrocritical says: Jul 22, 2013 4:51 PM

Thank you, John. It’s good to be here after spending most of my time over at PFT. There is a noticeable increase in rage and decrease in basic writing skills with the college crowd. Kinda ironic, huh?

  50. BrownsTown says: Jul 22, 2013 4:55 PM

Yeah, PFT is the epitome of highbrow discourse.

  51. metrocritical says: Jul 22, 2013 5:06 PM

Brownstown: Actually PFT set the bar pretty low, and, so far, not too many folks are bumping their heads as they pass through. All in the name of entertainment, right?

  52. imaduffer says: Jul 22, 2013 7:15 PM

Computers in certain parts of the country don’t come with spellchecx. And as far as PFT is concerned, whatever you do don’t use ego and talking head in the same sentence.

  53. huskerzfan4life says: Jul 23, 2013 11:11 AM

watchfullhose, just for your information, It does not matter wether Turban recruited him or not, Its Turbans way of not being a coach and putting down the law on his thugs that make him a Loser

  54. MasMacho says: Jul 23, 2013 1:06 PM

“Computers in certain parts of the country”…

seriously? I didn’t realize Florida was dumbing down their PC’s at Best Buy. Those must be the ones that come with cup holders and foot pedals.

  55. 8to80texansblog says: Jul 26, 2013 3:06 PM

The spelling on this board is atrocious…. (sp?)

Don’t you have red squiggly lines under your misspelled words?
