South Carolina finds no wrongdoing in Clowney, Jay Z situation

Jadeveon Clowney AP

Remember that report from earlier this week that said star South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney met with rap artist Jay Z, who has his own agency, Roc Nation Sports? And that by doing so, Clowney’s eligibility could maybe, possibly, be called into question? It’s been given the ol’ Naked Gun “nothing to see here” stamp of approval.

In a, ahem, “release” sent to ESPN’s Travis Haney, the university said Clowney “has not had any impermissible conversations nor has he received any impermissible benefits.”

It’s not an NCAA violation for an athlete to meet with an agent or a representative from an agency so long as no agreement on representation is made, verbally or in writing, or impermissible benefits are exchanged. South Carolina feels confident neither of those events occurred between Clowney and Roc Nation.

Clowney can meet with whomever he wants to discuss his future, and chances are he’s already done so with plenty of people interested in representing him one day. He just has to be careful about the topic of conversation when he does.

    Of course not…. its the SEC. The conference that got Cam Newton by paying off his dad and then claimed the player knew nothing about it.

    I guess JC only has 98 problems, cuz Jay Z aint 1 of them

    @buckeye I’m sure that as a buckeye fan you know nothing of any wrongdoings involving money

    Niiiiiiiice!!! $EC! $EC! $EC! Don’t mess with the hand that feeds you NCAA!

  10. brianincbus says: Jul 25, 2013 5:36 PM

    @elwaysagenius – Right, because a player’s dad getting paid for his son’s recruiting is exactly the same as players selling their own memorabilia for tattoos?

  11. floridacock says: Jul 25, 2013 5:58 PM

    @ncsportsfan
    They play sports in NC?

  12. classyjacklambert says: Jul 25, 2013 6:06 PM

    @floridacock
    Not important ones.

    FC….after you have won 41 national championships in sports…call me back.

  14. woebegong says: Jul 25, 2013 9:50 PM

    Now there’s a shock for you. Did you honestly expect that SC would find anything?

    @neosportsfan

    Pay no attention at all to Floridacock as he is not indicative of a true University of South Carolina fan. He thrives on showing his ignorance as evidenced by his North Carolina comment. We are very much looking forward to playing UNC on the gridiron August 29. Congratulations on a terrific baseball season. But I do hope Coach Williams has PJ Hairston move into campus housing. Living in the same house as an ex-con is just not a wise move.

    Well, at least we know the meeting was not in Florida. Jay Z is a race hustler and a jackass. And those are his good qualities. His music is computer generated and illiterate.

    Lay z stay away from this talented superstar, his career future is very bright, yours not so much

    @palmbeach – I am a pragmatic Buckeye man so am asking that you please stop throwing stones around in a glass house! Calling out other programs/conferences about player issues is rather silly given that we most certain have our own issues!
