Ex-Texas QB Connor Brewer says he’s transferring to Arizona

Alabama and Notre Dame were said to be among the handful of schools interested in the services of former Texas quarterback Connor Brewer. Turns out, neither will end up getting the ‘Horns transfer.

Instead, the redshirt freshman announced via his Twitter account that he will head back to his home state and play for the Arizona Wildcats.

Jason Jewel of 247Sports and Bruce Feldman of CBSSports previously reported Brewer’s decision. For what it’s worth, UA hasn’t officially commented and likely won’t until Brewer signs his grant-in-aid and enrolls. Brewer would be eligible to play in 2014.

Additionally, 247Sports is reporting that former Longhorns wide receiver Cayleb Jones is looking at the Wildcats as a possible transfer destination as well.

Brewer was an early enrollee at Texas in January of 2012.  A four-star member of UT’s recruiting class that year, Brewer was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 10 pro-style-quarterback in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of Arizona. He left Chaparral High School with 100 career touchdown passes, a state record, and won three state championships.

He redshirted his true freshman season and remained buried on the Longhorns’ depth chart exiting spring practices.

Good luck Connor. You would never see the field staying at UT.

If he couldn’t beat out David Ash and Derp McCoy, he should just quit playing football.

Can he play in 2013 or does he have to wait until 2014?

Good Luck to Connor Brewer in his return back home to Arizona. He committed to Texas out of the 2012 recruiting class, and with the top level schools who came after this kid, you know he will be a good one.

he was caught up in a big time numbers game at QB, with David Ash, Case McCoy, Tyrone Swoopes, and Jalen Overstreet in front of him on the depth chart, so I support his decision to head back home and get a fresh start and more playing time. He will be eligible for the 2014 season. Looks like another former high school all american from UT, WR Cayleb Jones, will follow him to Zona….last we heard of Jones, he was beating the snot out of a UT tennis player for being his previous girlfriends current boyfriend.

UT also has another qb commit coming in Jan 2014 named Jerrod Heard, from Denton Guyer HS in Denton TX, he had 2,115 yds passing, 2,164 rushing and 53 total td’s. he accounted for 7 tds in the 4A D1 state title game win over Georgetown HS

the future at QB for UT is very bright and intriguing with Swoopes, Overstreet and Heard in the mix
