Louisville enters 2013 as an outside BCS championship hopeful. If the Cardinals want to realize that dream, they’ll need to get through their conference schedule (and likely their entire schedule) unscathed.
The media predicts that won’t be a problem. The preseason American Athletic Conference media poll was released on Tuesday and the Cardinals are an overwhelming favorite to win the league in their first and only year.
However, Louisville was not a unanimous pick; rather, Charlie Strong‘s team, led by preseason Heisman candidate Teddy Bridgewater, received 28 of 30 first-place votes. Cincinnati, in its first year under new head coach Tommy Tuberville, received the remaining two first-place votes. As it so happens, the Bearcats host the Cardinals in the last game of the season for both teams.
Rutgers is projected to finish third in the AAC with new member UCF placed just behind the Scarlet Knights at fourth. USF, Houston, UConn, SMU, Temple and Memphis round out spots five through 10.
Here’s the entire preseason media poll (first-place votes in parentheses).
1. Louisville (28)
2. Cincinnati (2)
