Report: Kevin Newsome leaving Temple

On the verge of what would be his second season with Temple, quarterback-turned-H-back-turned running back Kevin Newsome will instead call it a career. Reportedly.

Philly.com reports that Newsome, who will graduate from the school this summer, will not play for the Owls this fall.

Newsome carried the ball five times for 55 yards last year in a reserve quarterback role. The former Penn State quarterback was able to play for the Owls immediately in 2012 after spending a year away from football and initially moved to H-back this spring.

Newsome was a touted four-star member of the Nittany Lions’ 2009 recruiting class, rated as the No. 4 dual-threat QB in the country.  During his two years in Happy Valley, he played in 15 games and attempted just 24 passes as he fell behind Rob Bolden and then Matt McGloin in PSU’s QB pecking order.

Congratulations to Kevin for earning his degree! Football is not why you attended college…earning your degree was your primary goal and you have achieved it. Well done!!

Another case of recruiting not helping a kid.
He had a chance to play on Sundays if he stayed at safety, but to lure him to Happy Valley, PSU told him he could play QB and it failed miserably.
Almost every other school recruited him as a DB for a reason.
Oh well…degree in hand so well done Kevin.
