‘Medical issue’ sidelines Auburn’s leading tackler, but full recovery expected

Auburn began fall camp on Friday without one of its best defenders.

First-year Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said safety Demetruce McNeal sat out with an undisclosed medical issue, though al.com notes that it appeared to be a leg injury of some sort. Whatever it is, it doesn’t sound serious.

“He’s got a medical issue he’s working through,” Malzahn said. “It shouldn’t be much longer and we really expect him to make a full recovery.”

That would be certainly be ideal, seeing as McNeal is Auburn’s leading returning tackler (90), and in 2012 tied for the team lead in tackles for loss with seven.
