UGA’s projected starting LB undergoes surgery, should be back for opener

Georgia is working with some bad news/good news as preseason camp gets underway.

The bad news is that projected starting outside linebacker James DeLoach (pictured, No. 89) will undergo thumb surgery for a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. The good news is he’s scheduled to be back in time for the Bulldogs’ season opener against Clemson.

DeLoach played in all 13 games as a freshman in 2012, but had just four tackles and a pair of quarterback hurries. Clearly, his role is expected to grow significantly this year.
