A&M D-lineman will miss season opener because of suspension

Not everything Kevin Sumlin said during Monday’s press conference revolved around Johnny Manziel. Actually, there’s another Aggies player who will definitely be missing some playing time this season.
Sumlin said that defensive lineman Kirby Ennis will miss the Aggies’ season opener against Rice because of his offseason arrest on a gun-related charge. He had previously been suspended indefinitely.

Ennis started 11 games for the Aggies last season as a junior and recorded 24 tackles.

Additionally, Sumlin said the statuses of projected starting cornerback Deshazor Everett and safety Floyd Raven were still up in the air. The pair faced assault charges stemming from an incident in April.

“That decision is forthcoming pending further investigation,” Sumlin said. “There’s still a lot of information out there we’re gathering.”
