When it was announced last month that Texas wide receiver Cayleb Jones would transfer, it was believed that Arizona was among the early favorites for the talented pass catcher.
While nothing’s official yet, it would appear those early indications were correct. According to Mike Berman of YNN Austin, Jones’ father has said his son will transfer to the Wildcats and play for second-year coach Rich Rodriguez.
If/when that comes to fruition, Jones would join former Longhorns quarterback Connor Brewer, who announced he would transfer to UA late last month. It would also mean he’d have to sit out a year to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He’d have three years of eligibility remaining in 2014.
Jones, who played in 10 games last year, had an off-the-field issue in March after he allegedly broke the jaw of a UT tennis player who was dating his former girlfriend. The felony charge he originally faced was ultimately reduced a month later, clearing the way for Jones’ return from a suspension he was serving. He was expected to see increased playing time this year behind Mike Davis and Jaxon Shipley. However, Longhorns coach Mack Brown said in a statement last month he felt it would be best for both sides if Jones were to move on to another program.
