Cincinnati confirms addition of ex-Hogs WR Mekale McKay

A couple of days after his former coach announced his next move, Mekale McKay‘s new head coach has officially confirmed it.

Tommy Tuberville announced in a press release Wednesday that the wide receiver has transferred into the Cincinnati football program. McKay comes to the Bearcats from Arkansas, where he spent his first season at the collegiate level last year.

Due to NCAA transfer regulations, McKay will be forced to sit out the 2013 season. He will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2014.

“We are glad to welcome Mekale to the Bearcats family,” Tuberville said. “He’s very talented and has shown the ability to be a down field threat. Looking at him on film, he’s a heck of an athlete and will make our receiving corps better.”

As a true freshman last season, the 6-6, 195-pound McKay finished second on the team in receiving yards (317) and was tied for fourth in receptions (21). He added a pair of receiving touchdowns.

McKay was a three-star member of the Razorbacks’ 2012 recruiting class.
