Less than a week after abruptly “parting ways” with UAB, Jackie Williams has already found himself a new football home.
In a press release, UCF confirmed that the wide receiver is indeed transferring into the Knights football program. He will be forced to sit out the 2013 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
“This is my first time actually just getting to see the whole atmosphere (of UCF) because any other time we were on the bus and coming to the stadium,” said Williams in a statement released by his new school. “But I really like the campus setup. I went and took a tour today and I fell in love with the campus. My parents, they liked it too. So it was a win-win.”
Williams was dismissed from UAB over the weekend, with head coach Garrick McGee saying “what’s best for our football program is that we part ways,” The school gave Williams an unconditional release from his scholarship, clearing the path for him to move on from one Conference USA school to a former one.
Williams led the Blazers with 52 receptions for 799 yards in 2012. The senior exited UAB No. 4 all-time in career receptions (140) and career yards (1,733).
He had caught at least one pass in all 35 games in which he played.
