Urban Meyer hands CB Roby at least one-game suspension

Isi Sofele, Bradley Roby AP

Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby may have had his battery charge reduced, but he’ll still miss some playing time in 2013. Just how much, though, is still technically to be determined.

Urban Meyer said Saturday that Roby has been suspended for at least the season opener against Buffalo – perhaps longer depending on the outcome of his case. Roby, a junior, had started the previous 25 games for Ohio State.

He’ll be suspended one game just because there was an issue,” Meyer said.

Similarly, Meyer suspended running back Carlos Hyde for at least the first three games of the year last month even though Hyde won’t face any charges for his involvement in a night club incident earlier this summer.

Speaking of running backs, Rod Smith will also miss the Buckeyes’ season opener because of an apparently disciplinary issue that took place back in February.

Harsh penalty for Roby/OSU against Buffalo (note sarcasm here)

UM is a joke. Just look at his past record with players that are scum. Winning is the only thing that matters to this piece of work. Would love to see “the” OSU go winless this year. Well maybe 1 win.

They won’t go winless because they don’t play anybody. The BIG10 is weak, and their non-conference schedule is a joke, but after all, they never play anybody good. Overrated!

Video evidence clears Roby. He is being suspended for being at the bar. Nice try, haters.

    spunhead,

While defending Ohio State makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit, it should be noted that, going back to 2005, they’ve had home and homes with Texas, USC and Miami.

Going forward, they have a home and home with Virginia Tech next year and the year after, and then the following two years have a home and home with Oklahoma (assuming FBschedules.com is up to date.

So, to say they never play anyone good is kind of inaccurate.

Video of the incident outside a Bloomington, Ind., bar involving Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby appeared to be instrumental in the Monroe County prosecutor’s decision yesterday to offer a diversion program — which could result in the case being dismissed.

The POLICE REPORT that is BASED ON a police officer’s description of the VIDEO, contradicts the description in the original police report that caused Roby to be charged with misdemeanor battery and portrays him as more victim than perpetrator.

Btw, authorities in INDIANA reduced the charges, not Urban Meyer.

Omg he won’t be there for buffalo????

Vegas is moving the line now.

Auburn dismisses a player for a pot arrest, and Urban Liar suspends a guy only one game for battery—what’s wrong with this picture.

There’s no denying it, the man wins—but there’s also no denying that the man’s scum

  13. handsofsweed says: Aug 17, 2013 8:00 PM

Well, jimmy53, it appears that problem with the picture is in your head alone. You see, Roby isn’t being charged with battery….because the cops watched a security tape and realized that Roby didn’t batter anyone. You could at least TRY to read first. Just a suggestion.

I’ve gotta respect Malzahn for his decision, though. Not gonna lie.

Meyer suspends 2 players for doing nothing and the haters don’t think he was harsh enough?

Should he have taken them out behind the stadium and had them flogged or just shoot them?

OSU also gets TCU in 2018 & 19 and Texas in 2022 & 23. As for the B1G, we can also look forward to Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin playing Virginia Tech and the reunion of the Nebraska-Oklahoma series.

    So, never say “never.”

  16. dkhhuey says: Aug 17, 2013 8:55 PM

Ah – only in today’s world on the Internet – without any known facts, just about every sports media outlet jumps at the hint of a problem at OSU, adjudicates and convicts both El Guapo and Roby of the highest offenses without the benefit of an investigation and/or knowing all (or any for that matter) of the facts. Now, after the facts come out – doesn’t fucking matter what damage has been done to these kids or the coaching staff at OSU, the original story sticks… pathetic!

Spare me the “future” schedule crap. They have the weakest schedule “THIS” year of any team in the top 30. Their non-conference is a BIG joke and the B10 is weak. OSU will waltz into the UM game while only playing starters 1/2 the time in the first 11 games. The only “maybe” is Northwestern (they have the best coach in the B10), otherwise they should be 2 TD or more favorites in every other game. So take your 2018/2019 talk elsewhere pal.

yes the schedule thus year is weak. ..but Vandy backed out of the game late and needed to be replaced. with the late notice only Florida a&m was available. When Cal was scheduled they were a lot better but when you schedule games trying to look into the future you can’t help if that team isn’t what they were when the game was made.

@100 – piss off knowing your hatred and anger about OSU only serves to enrich us nutritionally!!! What’ you’re really saying is that OSU is going to make it to the National Championship game this year and that really really really pisses you off!!!

    @10of14

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I was responding to someone that said OSU “never” plays anyone good. I pointed out that in the past and in the future they’ve always had one big-boy program on their OOC schedule.

You’re correct that their schedule this year wouldn’t be described as daunting or difficult, but as someone mentioned earlier, there was a time when scheduling a home and home with Cal looked more impressive than it does right now (I have no desire to look and see when that got agreed to because, quite frankly, googling “Ohio State football future schedules” for my previous comment was way more research and effort than I would usually put into a comment).

Urban did the right thing… and has been doing so since he became the HC at OSU.

Urban haters are just being ridiculous at this point.

I agree this OSU season is weaker… but let’s see how OSU’s season plays out… all the way then decide.

That said – Ohio State still sucks… GO BLUE! ; )

  23. niallofthenine says: Aug 18, 2013 9:50 PM

Ohio can go 13-0and it will not matter. Your only game is Michigan. You’ll never get the respect. Ha

  24. handsofsweed says: Aug 19, 2013 5:26 PM

@niall: I’d say you’re on the wrong thread, but there is no wrong thread to discuss MACtion. EVER.

But Ohio @ 13-0? Nope. They’re not going undefeated. They’re NOT beating Kent State or Northern Illinois. Look for another KSU vs NIU thriller in the MAC title game. You must be an Akron dropout that spent all of his loan money on weed.
