Not to be outdone by his Iron Bowl rival, an Alabama defender has found himself in some off-the-field trouble as well.
Via the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, sophomore Tide cornerback Geno Smith was arrested overnight on a DUI charge. His bond was set at $1,000. Other details of the incident are unknown at this time.
“This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players,” Nick Saban said in a statement. “I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information.”
Smith was expected to be a key contributor to the Tide’s defense this season. In 13 games as a freshman, Smith recorded nine tackles and a pair of pass breakups.
