Former four-star Bruin LB to play at Hawaii

Unable or unwilling to make the cut at UCLA, Jeremy Castro has decided to head west across the Pacific to continue his collegiate playing career.

According to the Honolulu Advertiser-Star, Castro has decided to move on from the Bruins and play for Hawaii. The school has yet to officially confirm Castro’s addition to the roster.

Castro will be forced to sit out the 2013 season, but will have four seasons of eligibility beginning next year.

A four-star member of UCLA’s 2012 recruiting class, Castro was rated as the No. 17 weakside defensive end in the country by Rivals.com. That recruiting service also ranked him as the No. 40 player in the state of California coming out of high school.

Here’s the Advertiser-Star’s version of Castro’s departure from UCLA:

Castro signed with UCLA in February 2012 but was ineligible to enroll that fall because he had not met all of the admission criteria. He then earned a qualifying ACT score, enrolled at UCLA this past January, and participated in the Bruins’ spring training. This summer, he decided to transfer.
