Potential backup to Brett Hundley to transfer from UCLA

If the unthinkable happens and Brett Hundley goes down to injury, UCLA won’t have the player expected by some to backup the preseason Heisman contender as a fallback option.

According to multiple media outlets — and the player himself — T.J. Millweard has decided to transfer out of the Bruins football program. The quarterback stated simply that he wanted to get back closer to his Coffeyville, Tex., roots as the reason behind his decision.

“I grew up in the Midwest and the South,” said Millweard according to the Los Angeles Times. “UCLA is a great school, but it is a different fit for who I am.”

Who he was coming out of high school was a three-star prospect, rated by Rivals.com as the No. 23 pro-style quarterback in the country.

The departure of Millweard, who redshirted his true freshman season in 2012, leaves the Bruins even more woefully thin behind Hundley. While true freshman Asiantii Woulard is No. 2 on the depth chart, the program is hoping that they can avoid burning the player’s redshirt season. With Millweard gone, and aside from walk-on options, the only other viable option if catastrophe were to happen at the position is Jerry Neuheisel.

And, yes, Jerry Neuheisel is the son of former UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel. The younger Neuheisel came to UCLA as a walk-on and ultimately earned a scholarship.

Hundley, Woulard and Neuheisel are currently the only scholarship quarterbacks Jim Mora has at his disposal.

In other words, stay safe, Brett Hundley.  Stay very, very, very safe.

Perhaps Kiffin will target Hundley as payback for targeting Barkley.
