WR Jontavious Carter, ‘Canes part ways

Jontavious Carter

For the fourth time in less than two weeks, Miami has lost a player expected to contribute on one level or another this season.

The latest to leave Coral Gables is Jontavious Carter, who reports has decided to transfer out of the Hurricanes football program.  No reason for the departure was given, and UM officials have yet to publicly confirm the subtraction from their roster.

The website notes that, with Carter leaving, the Hurricanes are left with seven scholarship players at his position.

Carter was a three-star member of UM’s 2012 recruiting class.  He took a redshirt as a true freshman.

On the final preseason depth chart released five days ago, Carter was not one of the six receivers listed.

Carter joins a pair of defensive linemen — Dyron Dye and Jalen Grimble — and running back Danny Dillard as players who have left the program this month.

Considering that Carter was behind 6 other WRs on the depth chart, there really wasn’t anyone who expected him to contribute this year.

He wasn’t going to contribtue all that much next year either, seeing as how Miami is returning 5 WRs, plus adding a prep WR in Derrick Griffin.

Kid obviously didn’t want to fight for playing time anymore.

I really like this kid’s potential. Unfortunately, there is a lot of talent in front of him. Best of luck to him wherever he lands.

Smart move on.his part. Good opportunity for Miami to fill a need.

Good WR, would have seen good minutes in a year or so. Best of luck to him at his next stop.
