Hokies AD confirms 2015 Labor Day night game vs. Buckeyes

Lane Stadium AP

Virginia Tech will see your 2016 Bucky and raise you a primetime 2015 Buckeye.

Tossed to the curb temporarily by Wisconsin for a future Badger series with LSU, Hokies athletic director Jim Weaver confirmed on TechTalkLive Monday evening that Tech has agreed to at least a 2015 game against Ohio State.  That game would be played in Lane Stadium on Labor Day night, 2015.

The two schools had previously announced a home-and-home series, with the Hokies traveling to Columbus in 2014.

The 2014 game will be the first between the two programs.

In early August, Weaver confirmed that a home-and-home series with Wisconsin scheduled for 2016 and 2017 had been pushed back to 2019 and 2020.  That move was made to accommodate a UW series with LSU.

(Sheepish writer’s note: in my haste, I failed to recollect that OSU-Tech had previously scheduled a home-and-home series.  Mea culpa to those who gently pointed out my stupidity.)

As much as I hate Va tech I have to respect them for scheduling tough out of conference opponents.

How about doing your homework…This series has been scheduled for like 10 years. VT plays at Columbus in 2014 and at home in 2015. The only announcement is that the 15 game is at night on Labor Day.

This has nothing to do with Wisconsin.

Few things completely wrong with this article.

First, this statement is absolutely 100 % false.
“If it indeed goes off, that 2015 game would be the first between the two programs.”

The reason that statement is false is because Va Tech will play within the confines of The Horseshoe on September 20th, 2014.

Secondly hard to agree to a 2015 game when The Buckeye’s were already scheduled to play in Lane Stadium on September 19th 2015.

The home and home series was scheduled years ago.

If anything, we agreed to move the game to the first of the year, as The Buckeye’s are still trying to schedule 2 more games for 2015.

In the mean time,OSU will continue playing nobody. Their non-conference schedule is a joke, and the BIG10 is weak. They do not deserve to be ranked # 2. Overrated!!!!

Again, let me get this straight… Ohio State has a “pastry-soft” schedule with “only” AT Michigan, No. 17, AT Northwestern, No. 22, and Wisconsin, No. 23 (home). Yet Alabama gets no mention of their schedule for scheduling even weaker teams Georgia State, Chattanooga, and only scheduled to play TWO top-25ers in #7 Texas A&M at a neutral (mind you, who has a QB who will be lucky to even see the field) and #12 LSU (at home)? Gotcha. Great logic.

Now if VT would just do something about the annual box of cupcakes…..Austin Peay…..Marshall……James Madison….oh wait…..

@buckcat. Buffalo,San Diego St. and FAMU are real power houses. What a joke

Also Look at Georgia’s supposed TOUGH schedule. 6 on that schedule STINK. North Texas, Mizzou, Vandy, App State (div 1-AA), Kentucky are all HORRIBLE. Auburn, Ga Tech, and Tenn. will be better but no worldbeaters. Their Season is Clemson, SoCar, Florida, and LSU

    @ palmbeachbuckeye,
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. One would just hope that it would be a little more informed. For most people who follow college football, the current version of Vanderbilt is hardly considered “terrible”. They won 9 games last year and easily dispatched NC State in their bowl game. Most of the team is back. Hopefully we can agree that is somewhat better than “HORRIBLE”. As for App. State, aside from winning something like 3 1-AA National Championships in the last 6 years I do seem to recall them visiting a certain Big Ten team at home when they were ranked in the top 5 and beating them. If they are horrible, how horrible must the Big Ten be? Lastly, yea I think most of us think playing Clemson, South Carolina, Florida and LSU is a hell of a lot tougher than playing Michigan, NW and Wisconsin. Lets see, which is tougher…playing four teams ranked in the top 12 or playing 3 teams with the highest ranked one being #17?

@spunhead: I never said those were powerhouses, but I did say there are injustices within the media to call the Buckeye schedule “weak” and not do the same to the Almighty Alabama. The similarities between the two schedules should not be ignored.

Ohio and parts of Virginia must be excited.

Funny how you leave out Bama playing Va. Tech. So it only counts as a tough game if Ohio State plays Va. Tech? Gotcha. Great logic.

How dare you make me defend Alabama’s schedule; something I have never done.

  13. buckcat says: Aug 27, 2013 11:20 AM

@forever… I feel you. I would hate that too (defending Bama). I’m talking about this year- VaTech isn’t ranked. Not an overly strong team, maybe 3rd best in the weak ACC. I don’t really think VaTech trumps many teams even in the BIG.

Reference: “In the mean time,OSU will continue playing nobody. Their non-conference schedule is a joke, and the BIG10 is weak. They do not deserve to be ranked # 2. Overrated!!!!”
