Alabama an even heavier betting favorite to repeat

Discover BCS National Championship - Notre Dame v Alabama Getty Images

Or re-repeat, as the case may be.

With the start of the 2013 season a mere two days away, Bovada.lv has released its final preseason odds.  And, as expected, the two-time defending BCS champions remain a prohibitive favorite to claim their fourth title in five years.

A 3/1 favorite back in early May, Alabama is now listed as the 5/2 favorite for the 2013 BCS title.  Shortly after winning the BCS title in January, the Tide was listed as a 5/1 favorite.

Ohio State’s odds are listed at 6/1 (up from 13/2), followed by Oregon at 9/1.

Notre Dame, Alabama’s opponent in that title game, continues a slide in the eyes of the betting site.  Listed at 22/1 in January, the Fighting Irish have fallen to 28/1 in early May; 40/1 following the departure of starting quarterback Everett Golson; and now 50/1 ahead of the opener.

The Domers aren’t the only ones slipping, though, as Texas A&M has gone from 8/1 in May to 14/1 in August, presumably due to the uncertainty swirling around Johnny Manziel.  Georgia and Louisville also come in at 14/1.

For those looking for an underdog, Boston College, Iowa and USF are all listed at 500/1.

Below are the latest odds for the 2013 BCS title, again courtesy of Bovada.lv:

Bama is the best team. I just have a feeling that they don’t win. Loss to UGA in the SECCG or a stumble along the way. Just a gut feeling.

    Oregon over OSU….

  2. YouMadCauseImStylingOnYou says: Aug 27, 2013 2:47 PM

Louisville at 14/1 is the best bet on that board.

Hilariously easy schedule, very good team, elite QB.

Probably won’t even face a ranked team until their bowl game.

  3. imaduffer says: Aug 27, 2013 3:04 PM

If gave Alabama’s schedule to the top 1o ranked teams, half of them would go undefeated.

Oregon? Lmao they won’t even finish in the top 5. Book it!

  6. overratedgators says: Aug 27, 2013 3:25 PM

Florida at 25/1? Sounds way too high.

  7. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 3:51 PM

Imaduffer, does osu have a stronger SOS going in? Clemson? Show me all these teams that go. Maybe research a little before posting.

Odds can’t be good for any team to win threw in a row. I’m not saying Bama can’t, but not betting on it. And, I’m a huge Bama fan.

  8. mediocrebob says: Aug 27, 2013 4:04 PM

    Louisville 14/1

    Ha!

  9. bamafan36 says: Aug 27, 2013 4:12 PM

We have WAY too big of a target on us, and will all season. But, I think it will be two undefeated teams facing off for the BCS…..Bama and Stanford. Bama will play the real USC (of SEC fame) for the SEC Championship, and will ROLL them.

  10. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 4:23 PM

Alabama has had a great run, legendary, regardless of what we do this year. But, many refuse to acknowledge greatness from any team or person they don’t like. I don’t like the Miami heat, but I can’t deny they are a great team. The same for the patriots, don’t care for them, at all. But, they had an all time run there for a while. Urban Meyer is a great coach, whether you like him or not. A great example: Cam Newton. Not a fan. I can say he probably had the greatest QB year ever at auburn. You look petty and foolish when you deny greatness due to allegiances.

  11. imaduffer says: Aug 27, 2013 4:45 PM

    Norm,

I believe the headline says, Alabama. If it said Ohio State, I would have made a comment about OSU. Instead of me doing research, maybe you should learn how to read.

  12. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 4:53 PM

Maybe you should learn to read more then the first 8 words. The article covers quite a few teams. Go back and read it. But hey, I guess its easier then actually having to back up your post.

  13. imaduffer says: Aug 27, 2013 5:11 PM

    Norm,

How about this post. You take LSU schedule and no one in the top 10 goes undefeated.

  14. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 5:16 PM

Now that’s a post I can stand behind.

Myself, I think OSU may be the only school that will go undefeated. Maybe Louisville as well. Outside of the B1G and AAC, most leagues are pretty balanced at the top.

  15. shadowcell says: Aug 27, 2013 5:38 PM

so you’re saying I should bet the house on South Florida?

Of course OSU will go undefeated, they don’t play anybody worth a damn. Most overrated team in the country.

  18. canetic says: Aug 27, 2013 6:30 PM

Let’s remember that Alabama backed into the BCS championship game for two out of their three “championships.” One year they didn’t even win their division in their conference. That’s hardly a dynasty.

  19. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 6:42 PM

But the canes were a dynasty? Even after they all admit they were paid? I consider them a dynasty, but I’m not blind to other teams. Its obvious they are not playing to the standard you want, but how does ripping another team change that fact? Yes, Bama lost a game the last two years, but so did every other eligible team. Why does Bama’s loss count, but the other’s don’t? You sound like a sad fan, where is your pride? Miami can’t win the ACC, but your downing the two time champs? In the late 80′s-early 90′s we had tough games together. I enjoyed it, never ripped the canes when we lost. That’s sports. Maybe your only experience with sports is a video game. Wonder what Miami odds will be after they beat UF by 8 points??!! Not saying they are any where near “Being Back” but I do feel UF is in for a rude awakening!

  21. necr0philia says: Aug 27, 2013 6:52 PM

@shadowcell No No No beat the Farm on a Middle of the pact team!

  22. necr0philia says: Aug 27, 2013 6:52 PM

    Bet not Beat! Sorry!! Haha

  23. canetic says: Aug 27, 2013 7:11 PM

What’s that beeping sound? Oh it’s Alabama backing into another championship game. lol

  24. detectivejimmymcnulty says: Aug 27, 2013 7:20 PM

    @canetic

I would rather back into a championship than not win one at all.

  25. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 7:24 PM

Its crickets, the sound of Miami home games. Or maybe the sound of a fan base realizing they hired a mid level coach, who can’t attract kids to SOUTH BEACH. Or the sound if every other ACC team’s fight song, after they beat you yet again. I’m old enough to remember when y’all was good, but been so long, the memory is fading. Call me when you can get a measly 10k to actual watch you play. Lmao

  26. jrs45 says: Aug 27, 2013 8:30 PM

    Keep dreaming miamicocane!

  27. YouMadCauseImStylingOnYou says: Aug 27, 2013 10:42 PM

Calling Al Golden a mid level coach is absolutely silly, and the University of Miami as well as Sun Life Stadium are not even remotely close to South Beach.

By the way, Golden has done a fine job recruiting, he took enough kids away from Alabama, who resorted to (hilariously, and a bit pathetically) raising a billboard outside of Booker T. Washington High because Golden locked him out.

Saban was so buttflustered that he overpaid Mario Cristobal to leave Miami just to spite Golden.

Miami’s got a top 5 class coming in this year, had a top 15 class last year and a top 10 class in 2012. Doesn’t seem like Golden is struggling to “attract kids to South Beach”, even while doing this under the NCAA investigation.

But yeah, play the empty stadium card, as if that means anything to anyone in this state.

  28. normtide says: Aug 27, 2013 10:46 PM

Funny, Florida and FSU have fans that seem to care about attending games. Fact is, the great U still can’t win the ACC. The weakest of the big leagues.

Your right, Golden is doing his job. Only took two years for him to have Miami looking like Temple.

  29. mediocrebob says: Aug 27, 2013 11:35 PM

Sun life stadium isn’t remotely close to south beach? Half hour isn’t remotely close? Hmmm

  30. YouMadCauseImStylingOnYou says: Aug 27, 2013 11:47 PM

No one in actual civilization considers Tallahassee or Gainesville part of Florida, anything north or Orlando should just be given to Alabama and Georgia, since it’s white trash and rednecks as far as the eye can see.

Sorry Golden didn’t have some magic wand where he could wipe out 4 years of Randy Shannon on top of getting handed a mess of an NCAA investigation (which for some insane reason is still going on).

This will be the first year he even has players he recruited as upperclassmen, the purge of Randy Shannon’s reign of terror is nearly over.

And no mediocrebob, you can’t advertise South Beach to Miami recruits, Coral Gables and Miami Gardens are a lifetime away from South Beach in culture and if you’ve ever actually driven in Coral Gables or in Dade County you’d know that without a helicopter getting from South Beach to Sun Life Stadium in a half hour is absolutely impossible.

  31. mediocrebob says: Aug 28, 2013 8:26 AM

First off, you seem to be a very dramatic person from your vocabulary.

I was at theNational championship last January. Half hour is all it took from Coral Gables to Sun Life Stadium and that was without a “sun pass” or whatever you call them. And I’d rather be white trash from Alabama than a fruit from south Florida.

  32. rolltide510 says: Aug 28, 2013 9:39 AM

Gosh, fans of the least relevant team in Florida are testy today.

Mario is about to land us the #1 player in the country. Thank goodness Saban was “buttflustered” enough to take him from you guys. We’ll be taking anything else we want too, btw.

    That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard….

Backed in, fronted in, sidewaysed in… 3 titles in 4 years is remarkable for any program and is easily defined as a dynasty.

  34. 8to80texansblog says: Aug 28, 2013 11:48 AM

On another note. Rolling Stone is about to come out with an article about Aaron Hernandez where they allege that Urban Meyer covered up some pretty heinous stuff for Hernandez, including a drive by shooting in front of a bar.

While it’s just a story now and may not carry much weight, if this is brought up in a court room in official record, this may become much more serious.

I might not pencil the Buckeyes in for that 12-0 just yet.

If that ever happened, Id move back to California. It would suck to deal with the high taxes again but at least they don’t marry their sisters and cousins there like Bama fans. #InbredLife
