Ex-USC WR Markeith Ambles officially a Houston Cougar

While it was reported back in early April that Markeith Ambles was signing with Houston, the wide receiver had yet to officially join the football program.

That changed Tuesday, however, as head coach Tony Levine confirmed that Ambles is finally a member of the Cougars football team. Ambles has yet to practice with his new team, and Levine said the earliest the receiver could see the field is Sept. 21 against Rice.

Ambles came to the Cougars from the JUCO ranks after leaving USC prior to the 2011 season.

Ambles played in the first four games for the Trojans as a true freshman in 2010, but was later suspended due to academic issues. He then left the football team mid-year before returning to USC in 2011. However, he was declared academically ineligible before the start of the 2011 season and left the program a shortly thereafter.

A five-star member of Lane Kiffin’s first USC recruiting class, Ambles was rated as the No. 3 receiver in the country.
