Silas Redd to be an injury no-go for USC’s opener

When USC makes its trek across the Pacific for its season opener, it won’t have its leading rusher in tow.

On his Twitter account Monday night, Silas Redd confirmed that not only will he not be playing in the opener against Hawaii, he won’t even be making the trip with his teammates.

Gonna hurt to not travel with my squad [today],” Redd wrote, “but I know y’all gonna handle business in a few day! I’m working to get back 100%"

Redd, the Trojans leading rusher in 2012, missed the latter half of spring practice with a knee injury. Last week, head coach Lane Kiffin said he’s “not sure he will be” available for the opener as the back continued his recovery, making this non-school announcement not the least bit surprising.

On the Trojans’ depth chart released ahead of the opener, Redd was listed with Tre Madden and Justin Davis as the co-co-starters at tailback.

Madden moved from linebacker to running back in 2012, only to miss the season with a knee injury. Davis was a four-star 2013 signee who enrolled early and participated in spring practice.
