All-conference San Jose State LB to undergo season-ending surgery

All serious injuries suffered during summer camp are cruel. The ones that happen just a handful of days before the opener? The cruelest.

San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher announced Tuesday that veteran linebacker Vince Buhagiar has a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The resulting surgery will force the senior to miss the entire 2013 season.

Buhagiar had not yet burned his redshirt, which he will use this season before returning to the Spartans next year.

“The great news of that is we’ve got a veteran, proven three-year starter back at that position for 2014,” Caragher said.

Starting every game in 2012, Buhagiar was credited with 89 tackles and three sacks. He was named to the final first-team All-WAC team.
