Report: Dorsey goes from ‘Horns to Lamar

Tuesday brought the surprising news that Ashton Dorsey had decided to leave the Texas football program. Just a day later, the defensive tackle has reportedly found himself a landing spot.

According to the Tyler Morning Telegraph by way of the Dallas Morning News, the lineman has decided to move on to Lamar to continue his playing career. That FCS school has not yet confirmed Dorsey’s addition to the roster.

Because Lamar plays at the FCS level, Dorsey will be eligible to play immediately in 2013.

While Dorsey wasn’t a starter, he was expected to play a significant role in the Longhorns’ defensive tackle rotation. In nine games last seasons, Dorsey totaled 10 tackles for loss. That total was good for third on the team.

The fact that Dorsey wasn’t listed on the final preseason two-deep depth chart likely played a role in his decision to transfer.
