Duke down a starting LB for opener

Tevin Washington, C.J. France AP

When Duke takes the field for its season opener this weekend, the Blue Devils will do so without the services of a starting member on the defensive side of the ball.

Linebacker C.J. France, head coach David Cutcliffe confirmed, will not play Saturday against FCS-level N.C. Central due to an ankle injury.  France suffered the injury earlier on in summer camp and has not progressed to the point yet where he’s ready to take the field.

“He’s been at a sticking spot for a while,” Cutcliffe said. “We thought he would be back and available but he’s just not there.”

France started nine of the 13 games in which he played last season.  He was tied for fourth on the team in tackles with 60, with 15 of those coming in one game against Georgia Tech.
