Georgia loses WR Malcolm Mitchell to torn ACL

As if losing a heartbreaker to Clemson on Saturday night wasn’t bad enough, Georgia got some more bad news the next day when head coach Mark Richt announced that junior wide out Malcolm Mitchell tore his ACL against the Tigers and will miss the rest of the season.

According to Rich, Mitchell injured his knee while celebrating Todd Gurley’s 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Mitchell landed awkwardly while jumping up and down.

Mitchell didn’t catch a pass against Clemson, but he was second on the team in 2012 with 40 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns. He has a redshirt year available so he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining when he returns next fall.

“You guys got it wrong. You said I got hurt jumping. My jump was excellent. It was my landing I needed to work on. It was funny. It was part of my career. I talk about it all the time. You have to laugh about it.” – Bill Gramatica

I don’t mean to pee on your parade… Just think if you had watch Hawkins when he was a 49er on Thursday have to great plays, but act like a petulant little boy, I would assume after he got cut before your game yesterday, you may have acted more like Jerry Rice… Act like you’ve been in the end-zone a time or two and drop the ball or even a cordial hand off to the ref… Old school is becoming the new rage…

Tough break. These are 19-20 yr old kids. We spend endless hours enjoying their talent every weekend—who can “rag on” young men celebrating in the moment.
