Georgia loses WR Malcolm Mitchell to torn ACL

As if losing a heartbreaker to Clemson on Saturday night wasn’t bad enough, Georgia got some more bad news the next day when head coach Mark Richt announced that junior wide out Malcolm Mitchell tore his ACL against the Tigers and will miss the rest of the season.

According to Rich, Mitchell injured his knee while celebrating Todd Gurley’s 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Mitchell landed awkwardly while jumping up and down.

Mitchell didn’t catch a pass against Clemson, but he was second on the team in 2012 with 40 catches for 572 yards and four touchdowns. He has a redshirt year available so he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining when he returns next fall.
