Kenny Bell now expected back for Alabama

Nick Saban told the media after practice on Tuesday that he was giving freshly-departed Kenny Bell a ‘personal day’ and that he expected the wide receiver to return to practice with the team on Wednesday.

“Kenny’s a fifth-year senior, he’s done a great job in this program, he’s played a lot of good football for us, he’s made a lot of big plays, he’s been a good teammate to a lot of guys on the team. He’s certainly somebody I have a tremendous amount of respect for as a competitor,” Saban said. “Sometimes we have personal things that we need to get ironed out.

“He had a day today to do that so there’s really nothing else to talk about when it comes to that.”

Bell had sent a series of tweets on Tuesday afternoon that he was leaving the team and quitting football.

“I know I’m going to lose so many friends and followers and get more negative talk from people but truth is I [don't] care,” Bell stated, “[I].t’s been a nice run but I’m hanging up my cleats.  … time too [sic] focus on my responsibilities MY KIDS.

“I’ve made so many memories here @ Alabama but some things you gotta let go.  Salute to the team y’all keep grinding and win that championship.”

It appears Saban can be quite persuasive, though, as Bell didn’t stick with his decision very long. The turnaround by Bell allows the Tide receiving corps to retain a veteran presence, something it’s sure to need as the program guns for its third-straight BCS title.

Update: Not long after this story was posted, Bell tweeted the following:

“I’m back with the team!! Just needed time to myself for a day but I couldn’t leave my boy @10AJMcCarron we ended this run together.”

So there you go.

Not sure that a guy who caught 25 passes last year and had no catches against Va. Tech is going to do to help that anemic offense. 200 yards of offense against a likely .500 squad isn’t going to cut it.

Gotta love all the whiny haters. Bless their hearts.

Maybe he won’t write that book now that the envelope has been passed. It’s gonna be a long year Bell. You are a traitor anyway.

Did I get taken for a fool again? What is it with these kids: they want to be treated as adults, sometime act like adults, and then they blow it by comin back with got’cha and laughin their ass off at us when we show any type of empathy toward em. All I know is this old lady’s beginnin to wonder if some of these younguns know what reality is or not. Life’s sometime not fair but you hang in there, say your prayers, try and do the right things it all comes together. I realize my age’s showin but geesh why is it that it’s more important to hurt than to have a wee bit of concern for how others might feel? Dangnab it, maybe I’m soundin like a wuss but I was raised to be there if somebody needed an ear or shoulder NOT to take advantage, make fun of, and hurt others. K, da mous’s said her piece and won’t bore you any further.

I would like to encourage the ADULTS blogging on here to think back to what your mind set was in your early 20′s. If you are an honest person you will admit that you made some decisions in haste. At a time when you’re being hit from several different directions, its not uncommon to throw all the temporary obligations out of the way and focus on the things that are longterm and most important… I’m sure there are many on here who quit school before graduating just for the sake of family obligations or individual needs. Some comments are motivated by that green 3 headed monster known as envy, arrogance, and personal glorification without appropriate thought to what a younster trying to go to college, play football (which pays for his education) , and balance family obligations might be dealing with.

It is easy for the “self rightous” to criticize youngsters for not furthering their education and working deadend jobs, yet I see there is wealth of criticism for this young man and his attempt to see about his family first..

I feel sorry for most of the posters on this site. Your lives must really suck; since all you do is insult players and wait for chance to assume Alabama is cheating. Just deal with the fact that Nick Saban is one of the best recruiters and coaches in the country. Also wether you want to believe or not he generally cares about his players. Never mind Troll on!

What a crap article. I can’t tell why he is really leaving or why he is really coming back. Why didn’t the article just say, “We can’t figure out what Bell and Sabin are doing. We need to hire an investigative reporter, but our budget is limited.” Or just don’t write anything at all! Can I have that 30 seconds of my life back?

    @dhardy8207 …

Good post. If it helps, you’re way over the heads of the trolls. As bigdinla said, just feel sorry for them.
