The Arizona Wildcats — the team in Tucson, not Tempe — has seen its linebacking corps take a double hit due to injury.

Specifically, UA head coach Rich Rodriguez said Wednesday, Dakota Conwell (pictured, No. 23) and C.J. Dozier (pictured, No. 9) have been forced to retire from football due to the lingering effects of multiple concussions, the Arizona Daily Star is reporting. “[A]t the advice of their doctors, their football career is over,” Rodriguez added.

Neither player made it through summer camp due to the last of what was, in RichRod’s words, multiple concussions.

The Daily Star notes that “[b]oth are expected to stay on scholarship while they finish their degrees.”

Conwell and Dozier, who were the first two verbal commitments for Rodriguez after he took over for Mike Stoops in November of 2011, played in 10 and nine games, respectively, as true freshmen in 2012.  Cornwell and Dozier were both rated by Rivals.com as three-star recruits.

Sad deal for both kids and CJ. Being from Temecula my son had a chance to work with him at a camp 2 years ago. Wish him the best of luck
