UCF, FIU schedule future games through 2016

Florida and Florida State play at the end of each regular season. The Gators and Miami will revive their series briefly this weekend. South Florida and Central Florida have a little rivalry going as well and with any luck the Knights could be developing another in-state rivalry. Central Florida and Florida International are expected to announce a series extension through 2016.

According to The Miami Herald, FIU’s athletic director is set to announce future games with Central Florida through 2016 to tack on to the end of a currently running schedule agreement. The two schools play this weekend in Miami and will shift the series to UCF’s campus in Orlando on September 6, 2014 to wrap up the original arrangement. FIU will visit UCF on September 17, 2016 but no date has been set for a 2015 game in Miami.

Central Florida and FIU had been scheduled to open the 2014 season at FIU but UCF arranged to play Penn State in Ireland to open the 2014 season. It was expected the two schools would be able to reschedule their meeting so it is good to see them do just that and keep the game in the same season.

The two schools started their series in 2011 and each has picked up a win heading in to the 2013 meeting. FIU won the first meeting in the series in 2011 and Central Florida won last year’s game in Orlando.
