Regardless of what you think about Johnny Manziel off the field — and some of his actions on it — there’s little argument that the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is not only one of the top players at the quarterback position in the game of college football, but one of the top players at this level period.
Ask Brady Hoke, though, and (publicly) he’d give the starting nod to one of his own current players.
During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show Friday morning. the Michigan head coach was asked by the host to finish a sentence that began with “If Johnny Manziel’s your quarterback…” Hoke’s response?
“If Johnny Manziel’s our quarterback, he’d probably be playing behind Devin Gardner. … I’ve got a lot of faith in him,” the UM coach said.
(Pardon me while I get over the shock of a coach publicly supporting his own players… hold on… just about there… OK, good.)
