With Georgia-South Carolina about set to kickoff, there’s an interesting development that’s emerged that could have an impact on the highly-important SEC East clash.
Just a short time ago, the No. 6 Gamecocks announced that starting cornerback Victor Hampton has been suspended for the first half of the game against the No. 11 Bulldogs. The school would only cite “unspecified violations of team rules” as the reasoning behind the punitive action.
Despite the fact that it’s just for a half, it’s a significant blow for a defense that will face one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Aaron Murray. Considered the Gamecocks’ top cover corner, Hampton has started 13 of the past 14 games.
The junior will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by either sophomore Ahmad Christian or freshman Jamari Smith.
Additionally, starting center Cody Waldrop will miss the entire game due to a foot injury.
