Gamecocks suspend top CB for first half of UGA game

With Georgia-South Carolina about set to kickoff, there’s an interesting development that’s emerged that could have an impact on the highly-important SEC East clash.

Just a short time ago, the No. 6 Gamecocks announced that starting cornerback Victor Hampton has been suspended for the first half of the game against the No. 11 Bulldogs.  The school would only cite “unspecified violations of team rules” as the reasoning behind the punitive action.

Despite the fact that it’s just for a half, it’s a significant blow for a defense that will face one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Aaron Murray.  Considered the Gamecocks’ top cover corner, Hampton has started 13 of the past 14 games.

The junior will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by either sophomore Ahmad Christian or freshman Jamari Smith.

Additionally, starting center Cody Waldrop will miss the entire game due to a foot injury.

Must be one of those outstanding student/football players that the gamecocker is always talking about at South Carolina.

That GA TD would have been stopped by Clowney if he wasn’t held.

Out of respect for my Georgia friend, I can’t say this anywhere else … Go South Carolina!! Since it’s an all-SEC matchup, I don’t really have a horse in the race, but I love the Ol’ Ball Coach :)

Conner Shaw sucks. It’s too bad Spurier can’t get a better QB to come to South Carolina.

Dylan Thompson is a better qb than Connor shaw. I don’t know why spurrier is so infatuated with Connor. I could understand Garcia and sticking with him but this decision is costing us our shot at the sec championship. Connor panics and takes off running to quickly and doesn’t know when to friggin slide.

Nothing to say except congratulation to the Georgia Bulldogs. They out-played us and out-coached us today. No excuses.
