Michigan gets starting DB back from injury

Courtney Avery

It was already known that Michigan would get safety Thomas Gordon (suspended for opener) back for this weekend’s game against Notre Dame.  Now, we know that another starting piece of the Wolverines’ secondary will be available as well.

Friday night, head coach Brady Hoke confirmed that safety Courtney Avery will play tonight after missing the opener due to injury.  The defensive back underwent arthroscopic knee surgery two weeks ago following a summer camp injury.

In 2012, Avery started five of the games in which he played.  Avery, who moved from cornerback to safety during summer camp, has played in 39 games over the past three years, starting 13 of those contests.

In addition to Avery’s return, wide receiver Joe Reynolds, listed No. 2 in the “Z” slot on the most recent depth chart, will be available as well.  Reynolds suffered a leg injury in the season opener against Central Michigan after catching one pass for 45 yards.
