Coming off a tough season-opening loss to LSU, TCU figured to have the perfect elixer to heal some of its on-field wounds.
While that still may be the case, the Ghost of Week 1 FCS Upset Past has made its way into the here and now.
At the halftime of their home game with Southeastern Louisiana, the Horned Frogs hold a scant 17-14 lead over an FCS program that won just five games in 2012. TCU holds just a 204-202 advantage in total offense, even as the Horned Frogs were the beneficiaries of two Lions turnovers -- neither of which were turned into points by the home team, incidentally.
To add insult to literal injury, the Lions knocked Horned Frogs starting quarterback Casey Pachall out of the game late in the first half due to what appeared to b some type of injury to his left arm. It’s unclear if Pachall will return for the second half. If Pachall isn’t able to get back on the field -- he wasn’t on the sidelines for the start of the second half -- TCU would turn to erstwhile starter Trevone Boykin.
UPDATED 2:29 p.m. ET: There’s good news and bad news for TCU. The latter is that Pachall will not return to the game due to an injured left forearm. The former is that TCU is pulling away from the FCS school, now leading 31-14 midway through the third quarter.
