UGA’s Murray, Mich. State’s Calhoun named Camp POTW

With the full slate of Week 2 games already in the books, the Walter Camp Foundation has announced its national players of the week.

On the strength of an outstanding performance in an almost must-win game against South Carolina, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray has been named the Camp Offensive Player of the Week. The senior threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns in the critical SEC East showdown, with the last scoring toss coming on an 85-yard pass and catch that extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 11 points. While Murray had just 17 completions (in 23 attempts), he managed to spread the ball out to eight different receivers.

Murray is the second consecutive player from an SEC school to be named Camp Offensive Player of the Week.

On the defensive side of the ball, defensive end Shilique Calhoun claimed Camp honors for his performance in the Spartans’ win over USF. The lineman scored two defensive touchdowns, one on a four-yard fumble return and another on a 56-yard interception return. It was Calhoun’s first career interception.

Calhoun also added two tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries.

Below is the year-to-date list of weekly 2013 Camp honorees:

WEEK 1: Alabama wide receiver Christion Jones, Virginia safety Anthony Harris
WEEK 2: Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun
