Big 12 admits officials made mistake

A Big 12 officiating crew mis-applied a rule that led to the ejection of a Southeastern Louisiana player during its game with TCU, the conference acknowledged on Monday.

SLU’s Cqulin Hubert, a linebacker, was ejected during the fourth quarter after being assessed his second unsportsmanlike penalty of the game, which was won by TCU, 38-17.

However, the Big 12 said that Hubert’s penalty in the third quarter, which was handed out because he was participating without a helmet, should not have been considered unsportsmanlike. Therefore, he should not have been automatically ejected following his second penalty.

The league said its coordinator of football officials is taking appropriate measures with the crew involved in misapplying the rule, but didn’t say what those measures would be.

Good for them to acknowledge it. Lucky for them it wouldn’t have likely impacted the outcome anyway.

The lead official on that crew should be ejected from the next game for unrefereelike conduct.

No harm, no penalty. Move on, it didn’t change the outcome. Go Froggies.

The Big 12 picked a bad week to quit sniffin’ glue.

Ok State is as dirty as they come. Texas fired their DC after week 2. Oklahoma has no QB, maybe worst team in recent history. 2013 will be a season to forget for this conference. Well, it could be worse… At least the Big 12 is not the ACC.

Sarcasm? The ACC has looked worlds better than the Big 12 thus far. TCU or Baylor might be the best team in the league!

Wrong year to poke fun at the ACC. Just makes it seem like you haven’t watched football outside of your teams conference

Eeek… bad call but TCU dominated the second half…

Two weeks of play (really just two good games) does not wipe away the last 10 plus YEARS of mediocre football by the ACC.
Good luck convincing the nation your champion deserves more than the 2nd best from another conferences in the Orange Bowl.

    drummerhoff,

The past is the past, you can’t change that. Just like the Big 12 would love to thump their collective chest on just how mighty they are with PRIOR national championships.

Face it the Big 12 is two teams, Texas and Oklahoma. Both are down big time. You’re right, the Big 12 is not the ACC…….the ACC is better than the Big 12 for the simple reason that the addition of Notre Dame helped solidify the league as a NATIONAL conference. Something the new Big 8 doesn’t have.

SEC, B1G,PAC-12, ACC, then the Big 12. Thanks again for Deloss Dodds giving the SEC Texas A&M, your TV markets, and your recruits.

    RTR,

    1. The Big 12 is awful this year.

    2. Nearly HALF (7 of 15) of this new ACC is made up of ex-Big-East schools. NotreDame never made the BigEast a national conference but you’re right, the past is the past. And unfortunately for the ACC, history repeats with the ACC making the same steps that ultimately destroyed the BigEast: appease ND with partial membership and trying to revitalize northeast football.

Just look at the ACC tv & bowl deals. Its horrible. The bowl game days/times are not prime-time and the match-ups pit ACC teams vs. lower tier schools from other conferences. This is the same treatment ESPN gave the BigEast1.0 … and look how that turned out.

    Is Cqulin pronounced like sequelin?

His parents should draw a flag for that name unless they’re from Kashyyyk.

Glad this didn’t have an impact on the game, appreciate the Big 12 for acknowledging it and taking steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. And any way you look at it, the officiating in the NCAA is still miles ahead of the officiating in the NFL.
