Bill Snyder pens hand-written note to FCS QB who beat K-State

Bill Snyder, Craig Bohl AP

There is little doubt that Bill Snyder is one of the classiest and most gracious individuals to ever grace a college football field.

The latest example of his that?  Kansas State was stunned on its home turf in the season opener by FCS-level North Dakota State.  While the 24-21 loss was certainly a shock, Snyder took it in stride and took to a form of communication that he still dearly loves: the hand-written note.

That’s right, Snyder penned a letter to NDSU Brock Jensen , who was responsible for all three of his team’s touchdowns in the game, congratulating him on the huge win for the program.

“Congratulations Brock,” Snyder’s note on KSU letterhead began. “I was truly impressed with you & your teammates.  You played so very well, virtually error free & with such poise.  I wish you a great year & hope you achieve all you desire.  Please share my thoughts w/your teammates.

“Warm Regards, Bill Snyder.”

A photo of the note was subsequently posted to Twitter:

Bill Snyder Note

Bravo, Coach Snyder.  Bravo.  The game of college football is a better one because you’re a part of it.

That is what college football should be all about. Very classy. Johnny Football are you paying attention?

why even mention the money badger in a comment?

In my opinion Johnny Football has no class and he could learn a lot about life and football from those such as coach Snyder. Hence the comment.

Yea…Bill Snyder is about 75 years old, Manziel is like 19. It’s funny because the people who hate and despise Manziel feed the hype that they themselves cannot stand. Stop bringing him up, reading everything about him and watching everything he does and I promise he’ll go away.

A class act from a coach who is a teacher of boys , hoping that they become the men of the future, both on and off that field. Coach Snyder is a man, possessing strong values, and part of a community of coaches, who have few traits, outside, elevated egos.

The funniest bit was watching Snyder do an interview after the game in which he essentially said “I told you they were really good and that we weren’t.” Just a classy, tell-it-like-it-is guy.

Coach Snyder has always been a gentleman and a class act. He has done this type of thing many times in the past, but without the media attention. He will do this whether anyone notices or not, because that is him.

Many other coaches do good things, especially for children (with foundations, charities, and visitations to children’s hospitals, or bringing attention to the plight of foster children in need of adoptive parents) and we don’t normally hear about them because the media does not take an interest. The media usually only pays attention when there are negative rumors.

Thanks Coach Snyder, for reminding us of the good things many coaches do.

Not a Kansas State fan, but I have always respected Bill Snyder. The man wins a great deal of games with talent that is nowhere near a lot of other teams. In a world dominated by the Lane Kiffens and the like, good to see someone who still has some integrity prowling the sidelines.

Class act. You won’t see him throwing an assistant under the bus.

So are you surprised? This Snyder guy is the real deal! He is the same man, every year!

nice gesture on his part. even nicer that one of the cupcakes they built their program on beat them!

Of course he has class, he is a true leader.

Bill Snyder has always been a man of great integrity and class. Kansas State fans should be proud of him and the great direction he provides for their football program.

@barnesaintnoble Unfortunately Johnny Football will not be going away anytime soon. This is a discussion forum where opinions are expressed and debated. If not then why participate?

  16. jets12 says: Sep 9, 2013 8:40 PM

By the way I neither despise or hate Manziel. Just hope that he gets his act together.

Bill Snyder is a class act.

One of my “fun facts” is that, back in the early ’80’s when the first split of FCS/FBS (1-A/1-AA) occurred, at that time, Kansas State and Richmond were tied for worst all-time in historic football records. My Spiders jumped ahead by going 0-10 and 0-11 in the early ’80’s, but K-State pulled it together and hired Bill Snyder in 1989. Thanks to Bill Snyder, folks don’t think of K-State as an “automatic doormat” anymore – they may not think that of Richmond as that anymore, either, but we had to drop down a division.

Class act… and may I add that the man has really good penmanship…
