Tide loses DE Dalvin Tomlinson to season-ending injury

Alabama Spring Football AP

Expected to be a part of Alabama’s defensive line rotation this season, Dalvin Tomlinson will instead the remainder of the year rehabbing a rather significant leg injury.

During his weekly Monday press conference, head coach Nick Saban confirmed that the defensive end will not play the remainder of the 2013 season due to a knee injury.  The redshirt freshman underwent surgery last Friday.

The injury occurred during a practice session last Wednesday.

Tomlinson was listed as the No. 2 defensive end on the Tide’s most recent depth chart. He played in the season-opening win over Virginia Tech and was credited with four tackles.

Tomlinson was a four-star member of the Tide’s 2012 recruiting and redshirted as a true freshman last year.  A big reason for that redshirt is a knee injury Tomlinson sustained during a high school soccer game prior to enrolling at UA.

So sorry to hear this and hope he’ll come back strong next year. But how ironic in this time when everyone assumes kids should turn to soccer as the safer sport that he’s losing this opportunity because of a high school soccer injury.
