Alabama bar has a ‘Johnny Pinata’ for fans to whack

Forget having a bar where everybody knows your name.

In Alabama, there’s a bar where everybody can take a whack at Johnny Football.

With the huge matchup between the Crimson Tide and Texas A&M coming up on Saturday, Otey’s Tavern in Mountain Brook, Ala., has gotten into the spirit of things by hanging a 30-inch pinata of the defending Heisman winner inside the bar.

“Johnny Piñata,” as he’s called, stands atop an A&M helmet and comes with a Sharpie in one hand, fake money in the other, and a dollar sign over his number 2 jersey.

Shelly Pricer of It’s My Party in Cullman created “Johnny Pinata,” who has a Sharpie in one hand and fake money in the other.

The plan is to let Otey’s customers take their shots at Johnny Piñata during the bar’s weekly trivia night on Wednesday, and if he survives that, they may get to whack away at him some more during the game Saturday.

Here’s a pic of the pinata:

You’ve got to hand it to the Alabama fans. They always come up with new and creative ways to show off their school spirit. At least this time no trees were killed.

And one thing is for sure: Whether the Tide wins or loses, this pinata won’t last the weekend.

It’s a little weird that a bunch of drunk Alabama rednecks want to string up a teenager and beat him with some sort of bat.

Wait, that’s not weird at all.

Georgia fan here…but I love it. It’s funny and it doesn’t hurt anything or anybody. Gotta love the sharpie too!

They should fill it with autographed memorabilia from Manziel.

By the end of the week, the NCAA will notify the bar it can’t have the piñata anymore. Two days later, the same piñata will be for sale on the NCAA’s online store.

    You heard it here first!

All you need’s John Forney and Doug Layton calling play by play for the Bama Faithful and Keith Jackson for the National Crowd. Oh!! My bad: way fore a lot of folks’ time. But you do need somebody along those lines to call the action tho cause this would be funny as hell to see and hear nationally. And by the way, surely they’ve got support to hold everybody in check in line for their turn. Oh how I’d love to see this on TV for entertainment.

NCAA fans throughout the country have been getting up to similar pregame antics for as long as we’ve had football. When we go to the championship game, I give the family dog a replica of the opponent’s mascot. You should have seen what the dachshund did to that leprechaun. Then again, compared to the Irish, the toy got off easy :)

Didn’t Pedro get in trouble for doing this to Summer Wheatley in Idaho?

Money badger has an uncanny resemblance to Alfred E Neumann.
