Kiffin: There was no players-only meeting. Marqise Lee: Yes there was

USC coach Lane Kiffin and his star receiver Marqise Lee appear to have a different version of the facts when it comes to whether the Trojans did or did not hold a ‘players-only’ meeting on Sunday.

Following this past Saturday’s 10-7 loss to Washington State at the Coliseum, Lee told reporters that there would be a players’ meeting the next day.

On Sunday, Kiffin said a meeting had not been held and reiterated it to the media again after practice on Tuesday.

But Lee, one of USC’s team captains, said Tuesday that Kiffin was wrong, as these tweets attest:

Who is to be believed?

Based on the track record of the parties involved, I’m going with Lee.

If the players thought it important to have a “players only meeting” that says a lot about the morale on the team. That Kiffin would not know about the meeting, means that no assistant coach or student coach knew about it either. That says something also. The situation at USC does not seem good at this time. I hope they work it out.

Lane is such a petulant biotch who’ll be unemployed soon!

Anyone surprised Kiffin doesn’t even know what’s going on in his own locker room?

The guy has never run a football program that he didn’t drive into the ditch.

Kiffin and someone else – anyone else – make diametrically opposing statements and there’s a question of which one to believe? LOL! You know Kiffin is lying when he opens his mouth and words come out.

If things don’t work out, it’s good that Lane didn’t burn a lot of bridges in the past. With a healthy roster of former connections in good standing, he shouldn’t have a problem landing on his feet.

    @BrownsTown–I nearly choked laughing. Thanks.

WKU fans should rest comfortably. USC ain’t trading one small scum bag for one big scum bag.

Nobody can ever convince me that Lane Kiffin didn’t make a deal with the devil. This guy can barely string together two coherent sentences in a press conference and continues to run programs into the ground. Yet, he keeps getting top coaching jobs that pay him millions of dollars and he was able to land a smoking hot wife, there must be supernatural forces at work.

Did they tweet from the future? 9-11?

Kiffin has to go. A player’s only meeting without his knowledge is a sign of his failure as a head coach. He is a good recruiter with a slimy personality who has no clue how to properly coach a team that is top-10 talent wise. I can’t stand the guy and although I’m a fan, I want them to have a terrible season so that they can start over. Kiffin’s attitude is not the right fit for USC football.

can those of you more knowledgeable than me please tell me how Kiffin keeps getting these jobs? seriously, i do not get it.

The pictures he has of Pat Haden must be beyond humiliating.

  16. raiderufan says: Sep 11, 2013 7:33 AM

This guy only continues to have a job and will get another job based soley on the fact that he took it knowing they had sanctions coming down….he’ll convince someone else that the sanctions handcuffed him and at the very least be in charge of an offense. It’s a complete joke.

Kiffin needs to shut up and coach. Players need to shut up and play. Reporters need to just report real news. Leave the gossip to TMZ.

I bet there are some Volunteers that are rolling in laughter right now and thanking GOD this troll is not in their locker room…

  19. vols84 says: Sep 11, 2013 10:00 AM

dhardy8207 – sadly we are still trying to recover from his one year here in Knoxville. Plenty of scandal that got covered up and never made the headlines. Wouldn’t wish what we’ve gone through on anyone. Who knew that Al Davis was the voice of reason on this guy.

Once again, we are affirmed that Lame Kiffin is indeed a *perfect* fit at USC.

PC built a machine at USC. They won 83% of their games during the 9 years PC was there. Looks like Lane is taking USC back to winning 57% of their games; like they did the 9 years prior to PC’s arrival.

  22. mrsmell says: Sep 11, 2013 3:08 PM

Why was Lane so highly recruited in the first place is beyond me. Has done nothing his whole life in football worth mentioning. Must be great to have a legend in Monte be your source for jobs. Then again, welcome to Corporate America.

  23. granadafan says: Sep 11, 2013 5:05 PM

    “Kiffin don’t know”.

Lee is a product of the vaunted U$C “education”. University of Second Choice.

  24. mogogo1 says: Sep 11, 2013 5:10 PM

Everything you ever needed to know about Lane Kiffin in one pointless incident… He sets the stage for an argument with his star player over whether a meeting happened for no reason whatsoever. Most coaches would have handled it with something like “I’m not entirely sure if they had a players only meeting or not since I’m not a player.(ha, ha). But after a tough loss like that it’s time for all of us as a team to take a hard look at ourselves….”

See, a bit of humor to the question, a motivational message, and the issue gets deflected without him sounding like he’s calling his star player a liar. But Lane isn’t that bright and his ego is far too large.
