Texas QB Ash questionable for Ole Miss

After being treated for a head injury this week following a rough loss a BYU Saturday night, Texas quarterback David Ash is questionable to return to the Longhorns this weekend. Texas faces Ole Miss in Austin in what has turned out to be a pivotal game for Texas. If Ash is not ready to play this weekend, Mack Brown says the team will be confident in sending Case McCoy out to lead the offense.

“The guys trust Case,” Mack Brown said, according to a report by the Associated Press. “There won’t be panic if David’s not out there.”

Texas has other reasons to panic of course. The defense was such a mess at BYU Texas fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz on Sunday and named Greg Robinson the new defensive coordinator. Texas will also be without running back and receiver combo Daje Johnson due to an ankle injury suffered against BYU, the same game that forced Ash to leave with a head injury.

If Ash is unavailable for the game this weekend, freshman Tyrone Swoopes will serve as the back-up quarterback behind McCoy.

Coach Mack Brown said Wednesday if Ash can’t play, senior Case McCoy will start and freshman Tyrone Swoopes will be the top backup.
