Texas QB David Ash out vs Ole Miss

On Saturday the bruised and battered Texas Longhorns host a surprisingly entertaining Ole Miss team in Austin hoping the defense will be able to make some major adjustments after a shake-up on the coaching staff earlier this week. The offense will also be without quarterback David Ash, who has been ruled out for the Ole Miss game due to a head injury and a shoulder injury.

A report by The Longhorn Network, via Twitter, confirms one of the expected roster adjustments for Texas this weekend. Ash was forced to leave last weekend’s game at BYU and was treated for a head injury this week. On Wednesday it was thought Ash would be questionable for the game, with the coaching and medical staff at Texas waiting to see how he responded to treatment and testing later in the week before making a decision. There is no word on when Ash will return at this time.

Mack Brown said this week the team would feel confident playing Case McCoy as the starting quarterback if needed. With Ash out and McCoy starting, the Longhorns will use Tyrone Swoopes as the primary back-up quarterback.

Texas should be OK with their offense in the short-term, but it certainly hurts not being at full strength against Ole Miss this weekend. The Longhorns are already without running back-wide receiver combo Daje Johnson with an ankle injury. The mess of a defense aside, Texas may find themselves in a game that will require plenty of offense. If McCoy can come through with a nice performance against the Rebels, a bounce-back win may not be too difficult to come by.
