For the first time in five games, USC’s offense showed signs of life as the Trojans exploded for 14 first half points against Boston College.
Lane Kiffin’s offensive unit entered the game with just three touchdowns in its first two games and five in its last four dating back to the last two games of the 2012 season. USC’s offense hasn’t scored three touchdowns in a game since last year against UCLA.
But quarterback Cody Kessler was unshackled against the Eagles. While most of his throws against Washington State last week traveled less than 10 yards -- making his chances for success slim -- Kessler was finally allowed to throw down the field against BC and it resulted in a sterling stat line in the first half: 11 of 12 for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
All-American wide receiver Marqise Lee, who was held to just 27 yards on seven catches last week, also came up big, catching two passes for 90 yards, including an 80-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter.
