Week 4, ESPN’s GameDay show headed to… Fargo?

North Dakota State AP

You want to know how negative the perception is of the quality of games scheduled to be played in Week 4?  Here’s your sign.

Saturday morning, ESPN‘s wildly popular College GameDay show announced Chris, Corso, Desmond, Herbie et al will be headed to Fargo, North Dakota, next Saturday and will be on campus for the Delaware State-North Dakota State game.  That’s right, GameDay will originate from the grounds of an FCS football program.

This will mark the first time since 2008 (Florida A&M) that GameDay will originate from a non-FBS campus.

This is no slight to either school — NDSU is the unanimous No. 1 team in FCS football and knocked off Kansas State in the opener — but what does going to Fargo say about how far the Tennessee-Florida rivalry has fallen in the national consciousness?

In addition to the UT-UF game in Week 4, ESPN passed over, among others, Michigan State-Notre Dame and Arizona State-Stanford.

Now that I think about it, helluva selection, WWL.  Give “the little guys” their due, especially a program like North Dakota State that impressed Bill Snyder enough he penned a letter to a Bison player congratulating him on the upset.

That is great that ESPN is going to Fargo. I’d much rather see what impact that has on a place like NDSU and how excited the students and townspeople are for this to happen. Who gives a rat’s behind about having the boys go to Gainesville or Knoxville. College football is played on three levels, not just SEC, Big 10 or ACC for instance. People in places like Fargo get as excited for a game just like they do in Ann Arbor or Eugene; maybe even more so. I just wish they did more often and gave others a chance to experience College Gameday. Thanks, ESPN.

And for those who haven’t seen the movie “Fargo” … the classic “think I’m gonna barf” scene:

Maybe the World Wide Leader is finally waking up to the reality that the “top to bottom” superiority of the SEC ha always been a myth, and that they are, in reality, a three team league at best.

Looks like that Fox Sports 1 channel will finally top Gameday for 1 Saturday.

Stanford and ASU is the only meeting for 2 Top-25 teams. I figured Gameday would head to Palo Alto.

Glad to see small schools getting some love.
