This past offseason, both athletic directors at BYU and Utah hinted very strongly that additional games would be added to the Holy War rivalry.
Today, that has officially come to fruition.
BYU announced in a press release Monday afternoon that the in-state rivalry with Utah has added a future home-and-home series. The Utes will travel to Provo on Sept. 9, 2017, with the Cougars heading to Salt Lake City on Nov. 24, 2018.
“As many people are aware we have been working on these two games for awhile,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe in a statement. “It’s an important historical series for the state and the fans of both schools. It’s nice to have it completed.”
The two football programs have played 88 times over the past 91 years, with the Utes holding a 53-31-4 edge in the series. The Cougars will host the Utes this coming Saturday, while another previously scheduled game will be played at Utah Sept. 10, 2016
