Stanford got some bad news this week when it learned that a left leg injury suffered against Army will force all-star defensive end Henry Anderson to miss this Saturday’s matchup with Arizona State and probably a few more games as well.
Cardinal head coach David Shaw said that Anderson “will be out a few weeks for sure” but that the injury should not end his season.
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Anderson is a big-time talent — Shaw told me at Pac-12 media day that he compares favorably to Houston Texans lineman J.J. Watt. Anderson had 16 tackles for loss last season on his way to being named All-Pac-12 second-team as a sophomore.
Luckily for Stanford, it is loaded on the defensive line. Senior Josh Mauro is a carbon copy of Anderson physically and he already has 10 tackles and a sack so far this season. The highly-touted Aziz Shittu is also available.
The Cardinal will definitely miss Anderson’s athleticism and motor, but they should be more than fine with Mauro and Shittu.
