UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr has been named the FWAA/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bruins’ 41-21 win at Nebraska this past Saturday.
Barr posted a career-high 11 tackles, including two for losses. He forced three fumbles as the Bruins held Nebraska scoreless for the game’s final 37 minutes and to just 128 yards rushing on 42 attempts.
He was also named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
The 6-4, 248-pound senior All-American has 16 tackles so far this season, 3.5 of them for losses and he is tied for the national lead in forced fumbles with three. He is expected to be a top 10 pick in the next NFL draft.
Ironically, one of his forced fumbles against Nebraska should have been credited to teammate Jordan Zumwalt. UCLA fixed the statistic after the game.
