Five-game suspension for BYU’s Spencer Hadley

Yesterday evening brought word that BYU had indefinitely suspended Spencer Hadley. A short time later, the indefinite had been defined.

A school spokesperson confirmed to both the Salt Lake Tribune and Provo Daily Herald that the starting linebacker will be suspended for a period of five games. The official also confirmed that the suspension came as a result of a violation of the university’s strict honor code.

What part of the code, which prohibits premarital sex and the use of alcohol and drugs among other things, Hadley violated was not detailed.

Hadley will stay in schools “and would be working with the dean of students during that time until certain conditions were met,” the Daily Herald wrote.

Because of the suspension, Hadley will miss games against Utah, Middle Tennessee State, Utah State, Georgia Tech and Houston. The earliest the senior would return to the playing field would be for a Friday, Oct. 25, game against Boise State.

Hadley, who had started the past 15 games at linebacker, will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by senior Tyler Beck.
